A (belated) Happy 80th Birthday to the Eighth Wonder of the World!

Restored!

A Spanish lady in her eighties, Cecilia Gimenez, recently set the Internet and art world on fire. Her curious attempt to restore the fresco "Ecce Homo" by Elias Garcia Martinez in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church near Zaragoza made world wide news. So the net buzzed with more attempts of restoration based on her depiction of Jesus many refer to as "Beast-Jesus" (clearly related to an Ewok). You can see the hilarious results of Mrs. Gimenez brave act at the tumblr page of the Beast-Jesus Restoration Society.

King Kong - Frankensteins Sohn (King Kong escapes!)

Illustration for the German DVD release a few years ago through Target Media. Kong looks like Homer Simpson in this flick. Acrylics on board, 2003.

Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, before I tell you any more, I'm going to show you the greatest thing your eyes have ever beheld. He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive - a show to gratify your curiosity. Ladies and gentlemen, look at Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World!!!"

One of my all-time favorite movies ( and GK subjects). This is the wonderful 3-D rendering of the movie poster (original see below) by James Groman and released by Webbhead Enterprises as a model kit a few years ago. I did some photoshopping and recreated the poster just for fun, using an photo of the New York skyline taken on top of the Empire State Building in 2005.

 

Actually the poster artist took some artistic license regarding the scale of Ann Darrow and the biplane: She seems nearly as big as the ill fated aircraft....
